CarperHollins Publisher is seeking an Editorial Assistant to edit or revise both written and online materials for publication and for the imprint: Tunction. 

 

Since 2015, Tunction has been publishing a range of young adult to new adult fiction that strikes the hearts of its readers and their wallets. The imprint’s name came from its home location, in Hopewell Tunction, New York. Tunction publishes a wide range of genres for the young and new adult audience, including historical fiction, sci-fi, fantasy, action, and adventure. Tunction has published well-known books like Love & War by Warren Peace, Intergalactic by 3ej423nu 23e23oind, and My Video Game Cartridge is Haunted? by Merissa-chan.

Responsibilities 

  • Edit or revise written and online materials 

  • Report directly to the Editorial Director 

  • Answer and direct phone calls 

  • Aid the editing team by filling in where needed 

  • Answer and respond to emails in a prompt fashion 

  • Fulfill other responsibilities because we are short staffed 

  • Feel overworked and underappreciated 

  • Retrieve a coffee for Jim every few hours; he gets cranky without his
    coffee :( 

  • Avoid discussions of unions; they make Jim’s wallet uncomfy 

  • Refrain from using the bathroom on the second floor, unless it’s an emergency 

 

Job Requirement/Skills 

  • At least a master’s degree in a relevant area of study or ten years of experience in trade publishing 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 

  • Familiarity with Adobe Cloud applications (must be able to access from home) 

  • Experience in at least one of the following: Acquisitions, Text Development, Publication 

  • Ability to manage time and maintain a tight schedule 

  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills 

  • Proficiency in making coffee for Jim 

  • Ability to work unreasonably long hours 

  • Capable of maintaining a clean and organized environment

Malaika Olaoye (she/her) is a junior Creative Writing and Publishing & Editing double major with a Theatre minor. She really enjoys reading and writing middle-grade fiction, like the Percy Jackson series (she can't wait for the new TV series to come out). She's currently on a Marvel kick, devouring all the content that she can. She's also the Design Editor of Susquehanna University's on-campus satirical newspaper, The Squirrel. Her favorite candy is KitKats!
